Punjab is moving to strengthen its agricultural modernisation efforts through international collaboration, as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held discussions with a South Korean delegation on advancing smart farming technologies in the state.
The meeting focused on leveraging South Korea’s expertise in precision agriculture, farm mechanisation, and digital farming solutions to enhance productivity, optimise resource use, and improve farmer incomes.
Officials indicated that the collaboration could include the adoption of advanced technologies such as automated farm equipment, sensor-based crop monitoring, data-driven advisory systems, and efficient irrigation practices.
Punjab, a key contributor to India’s food grain production, is currently grappling with challenges including groundwater depletion, labour shortages, and rising input costs. The push toward smart farming is aimed at addressing these structural issues through technology-led interventions.
The discussions also explored opportunities for knowledge exchange, pilot projects, and potential investments in agri-tech infrastructure, positioning Punjab as a hub for modern agricultural practices.
The engagement reflects a broader policy direction — integrating global best practices into India’s agricultural ecosystem to drive sustainability, efficiency, and long-term resilience.
As states increasingly look beyond domestic solutions, Punjab’s outreach to international partners underscores the growing importance of cross-border collaboration in transforming agriculture.
