Mumbai: Compound Livestock Feed Manufacturers Association (CLFMA) of India, the apex industry body representing the livestock feed and allied sectors, has elected Sumit Sureka as its chairman for the 2026–2028 term. Sureka, who brings over 30 years of experience in the animal feed and poultry industries, will lead the Association’s efforts to address key challenges facing India’s livestock and animal agriculture sectors.
Sureka is the Managing Director of Shivshakti Agro India Pvt. Ltd. and Amrit Breeder Farms Pvt. Ltd., and a director at Impressico Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd. His professional experience spans poultry, dairy, aquaculture and piggery feed, poultry breeding, hatcheries and broiler integration.
His association with CLFMA spans more than 25 years. He has served as a managing committee member for around 10 years, held office-bearer positions for over eight years and served as deputy chairman for the past six years. He is also the vice-president of the West Bengal Poultry Federation and an alumnus of London Business School and Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi.
Identifying priorities for his 2026–2028 tenure, Sureka highlighted the availability and affordability of maize and soya as the livestock feed industry's most pressing challenges.
He said supply uncertainty and price volatility in these key feed ingredients were putting considerable pressure on the poultry, dairy and aquaculture sectors, which depend on them.
Sureka called for a shift from short-term measures towards sustainable, long-term solutions. This, he said, would require collective industry efforts, improved productivity, stronger supply-chain infrastructure and constructive engagement with the government to ensure maize and soya are available at competitive prices.
Technology adoption and knowledge-sharing will also feature prominently in the Association's agenda. Sureka noted that predictive technologies available within the industry could help improve productivity and said CLFMA would work to identify and disseminate such knowledge among its members.
Other priorities include expanding the Association's membership across the country and different industry segments, and creating greater awareness of opportunities in the animal food industry among higher educational institutions. The initiative will focus on employment, self-employment and entrepreneurship in the sector.
The Association also plans to develop a roadmap for Vision 2040 for Animal Food, built around the theme of “Most Economic Protein”, to guide the sector's long-term development.
As chairman, Sureka will lead CLFMA's engagement with policymakers, industry stakeholders and research institutions. The Association's work will cover poultry, dairy, aquaculture, feed manufacturing and other allied segments, with an emphasis on issues affecting productivity, competitiveness and sustainable growth.
Commenting on his appointment, Sureka said the livestock and feed sectors play an important role in India's nutritional security, farmers' livelihoods and economic development.
He stressed that addressing challenges related to feed raw material availability, input cost volatility, animal nutrition and production efficiency would require sustained collaboration between industry and policymakers.
He added that his tenure would focus on strengthening engagement with stakeholders, ensuring that members' concerns receive due attention and supporting innovation, competitiveness and responsible growth across the animal agriculture value chain.
Immediate past chairman Divya Kumar Gulati was credited by the Association with strengthening CLFMA's industry representation, policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement during his tenure.
The new chairman will be supported by office-bearers representing key segments of the livestock industry. The leadership team will work towards improving coordination across the animal agriculture value chain, promoting knowledge-sharing and advocating policies that support quality feed availability, balanced animal nutrition and efficient production systems.
