    Artificial Intelligence, smart tech to boost farming in the future.

    Rajendranagar: The third memorial lecture of eminent soil scientist Dr B Ramamoorthy was held at seminar hall in PJTSAU auditorium on the campus here on Friday. Dr K S Subramanian, Director of Research, TNAU (Tamil Nadu Agricultural University), delivered the memorial lecture on themed 'Smart Farming for Evergreen Revolution.' Dr V Praveen Rao, the Vice-Chancellor, PJTSAU, presided over the memorial lecture.

    Follow norms & avoid 'shock' at petrol bunks Delivering the lecture, Dr Subramanian said about the challenges and opportunities in the smart agriculture and he also emphasised on how the artificial intelligence, drone, sensor technologies, robotics may play a crucial role in extending of modern technologies to the farmers in the country.

    He also spoke on how nanotechnology will contribute to agricultural research for providing better services and developing low cost farm applications and technologies. Dr Subramanian further said that the smart farming is applied in four major areas in agriculture, namely: precision agriculture; protected cultivation; drones in agriculture; farm management systems.

    The application of smart farming is getting expanded widely, which is commensurate with technology development, he added. Also Read - It's uphill task to get certificates: Divyangs ADVERTISEMENT Delivering the presidential remarks, Praveen Rao said that there was a need to have collaborative networking between all the agricultural universities in the country for sharing of one experience to others.

    He said that frontier technologies would play vital role in agriculture research and development and extension services in future. Dr T Pradeep, Director of Research PJTSAU, Dr Adhilaxmi retired agricultural scientist and daughter of Dr Ramamoorthy, former VC ANGRAU Dr A Padmaraju, Board member, PJTSAU Dr EA Siddique, several scientists, faculty, research scholars of PJTSAU were present.
