YAVATMAL: A central team, led by director of department of agriculture and farmers’ welfare, Dr RP Singh, visited various villages in the district on Friday for an on-the-spot assessment of crop damage due to unseasonal rain that lashed the region during October and November.
Dr Singh was accompanied by divisional commissioner Piyush Singh, collector Ajay Gulhane, divisional agricultural assistant director Subhash Nagare and others.
The team visited Watfali, Loni, Mozhar, Gharfal and Satefal villages in Ner tehsil and inspected crop damage. Dr Singh also interacted with farmers and enquired about the crop situation, previous year’s yield etc.
In Satefal, a farmer Yeshwant Deshmukh briefed the visiting team about the extent of crop loss and how he was unable to recover even the input cost.
When the rain-hit farmers pleaded for adequate compensation from the government, Dr Singh assured to look into their demand.
