Anna datas of the country should be free from worries: PM Narendra Modi on doubling farmers income by 2022

In his address on the golden jubilee celebrations of Bharatiya Agro Industries Foundation in Pune today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held forth on some of the most important tasks that the NDA government has on its table and this had to do with one of the biggest promises made by him during the general elections in 2014. PM Modi said that his government is working on the target of doubling income of farmers by 2022. PM Modi then added, “The ‘Anna Datas’ of the country should be free from worries.” PM Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have time and again reiterated their intention to ensure that the vow it made will come to pass.

The PM, talking on the day, also pitched for creating ‘digital villages’. According to him, this initiative is a part of developing the rural sector and ensuring empowerment of farmers, which is essential to realise the dream of ‘New India’. Talking further about the idea of the digital village, the PM said that the government is connecting all Panchayats through the optical fibre, under this. The PM did not forget to count the achievements of the government in the agricultural sector of India. Highlighting steps taken in this sector, PM Modi said the government is encouraging organic farming and crop diversification while it has distributed over 9 crore soil health cards and linked over 500 mandis with e-NAM (electronic national agriculture market), according to news agency PTI.

The PM also emphasized the role of women farmers in the agricultural sector and said that skill training should be provided to womenfolk. According to him, he said that 70 per cent of those engaged in this field are women and they should be given training to look after the cattle in a better way, according to PTI. The PM also shared the step that should be taken in this regard and said that women self help groups (SHGs) should be given training in veterinary science and animal feed, who in turn could train the village women for further growth of the sector.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi raised the issue of problems faced by the farmers in several parts of the country including Vidarbha in Maharashtra. Referring to it, the PM said the government is trying to address these through the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, said the report.
