“A country’s growth depends on the efforts of agriculturists and farmers and 17% to 18 % of our country’s GDP is achieved from agriculture. It is only through agriculture that we can make our country self-reliant,” Pillai said, while addressing a group of farmers during his visit to an agricultural farm in Rivona owned by a progressive farmer Pandurang Patil.
Congratulating Patil for his dedication towards agriculture, Pillai said other farmers should take inspiration from him. “Raj Bhavan will also take this as a classic example and will try to do something new in the field of agriculture in its 88 acres of land,” the governor said.
While mechanised farming was important for better yield, Pillai said original practices should also be preserved while adopting modernisation. “Combination of mechanised and traditional practices in agriculture is important to ensure higher yield,” he said.
