Create awareness on benefits of Farm Laws: Narendra Singh Tomar to agriculture graduates

  • Date : 15 December, 2020

Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar has asked more than 15,000 agriculture graduates in 74 universities to “create awareness” about the “benefits” of agriculture reforms and the three farm laws against which 40 farmers’ unions have been holding an agitation at Delhi’s Singhu border close to a month.

Addressing students in a video conference organised by Indian Council of Agricultural Research in New Delhi on Monday, Tomar said the new farm laws would “revolutionise” the agriculture sector.

“Young and progressive agri graduates should study and understand the new farm laws. It will benefit farmers and farm sector in a bid way. You should create awareness about the benefits of these laws across the country.”

He said that the new laws would “empower” farmers and bring “prosperity” to small and marginal farmers through technological interventions.

“Farmers can get better realisation of their produce by selling anywhere in the country. Small and marginal farmers will get inclined towards growing remunerative cash crops. Some people are protesting these reforms but everyone knows the ideologies and mentality behind these protests,” he alleged. Tomar has met more than 10 farmer groups from across the country, who have pledged support for the new laws.

Reforms have started showing positive results. These laws are in favour of farmers. They should not get misled. I am ready to do every bit to remove their fears and apprehensions,” Tomar had told ET on Sunday.
