The Kisan Sabha announced on Sunday that it will launch a public awareness campaign from December 15 to garner support for the ongoing farmers' agitation in New Delhi. The decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the Nashik district branch of Maharashtra State Kisan Sabha held here on Saturday.
This meeting was chaired by Bhaskarrao Shinde. Since introduction of three agri bills by the central government will only benefit the entrepreneurs and given the BJP-led central government's unwillingness to understand and resolve the issues of the farmers, their agitation in Delhi is important in such circumstances, Mr Shinde said.
This policy and the role of the government is fatal not only to the farmers but also to the common man, he noted. Therefore, public awareness is needed to make the farmers in Maharashtra understand the seriousness of ongoing agitation by their compatriots in Delhi, he added. The central government has enacted anti-farmer laws to ensure that the agricultural industry falls into the hands of the corporate sector, alleged state secretary Raju Desale.
Similarly, the central government's proposed Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2020 is also antifarmer and anti-consumer, he pointed and said the supply of electricity at subsidised rates given to farmers and domestic consumers will be removed under this act.
Hence, to support the farmers' ongoing agitation in Delhi, it is necessary to create environment among ordinary farmers in the state against these anti-farmer laws, he said and informed that it will be explained at the village-level through dialogue. The 'Support Food Farmers' campaign will be implemented on social media, Mr Desale added.
