MVA will not implement farm Bills in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena also with us: Balasaheb Thorat

  • Date : 28 September, 2020

After President Ram Nath Kovind gave assent to three farm bills, Maharashtra Minister of Revenue Balasaheb Thorat said that the state government will not implement them it in the state.

Calling the Bills passed by Parliament “anti-farmers”, Thorat said that Shiv Sena is also on board.

We'll sit together and form a strategy, he added and said that a Congress delegation will meet Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari tomorrow.

According to a gazette notification, the President gave assent to three bills: The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020.

The President's assent to these bills comes amid widespread criticism by the Opposition.

Even NDA's oldest ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) parted ways on the issue of these farm bills. Earlier, Sukhbir Singh Badal's wife and SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal quit the Union Cabinet on September 17 claiming these legislations will "destroy" the agriculture sector in Punjab.

The Shiv Sena welcomed the SAD’s decision to quit the National Democratic Alliance with Sanjay Raut saying, “Both parties (Shiv Sena and SAD) stood by the BJP through thick and thin while others joined hands when they smelt power. Shiv Sena was forced to quit the NDA last year while Akali Dal has now quit over the farm Bills. We felt sad over the development.”

Meanwhile, SAD president Badal has said that Kisan March will begin on October 1 from the three Takhts, and go to Mohali.

“We will give a memorandum to the Governor and the President that these Ordinances should not be given assent and Govt should take these back,” he added.
